Jodhpur/Rajasthan: Asaram, serving a life sentence in sexual assault cases, has received relief from the Rajasthan High Court after a similar decision by the Gujarat High Court. Following the submission of his medical reports, a division bench of Justices Dinesh Mehta and Vineet Mathur directed a detailed health evaluation of the 86-year-old convict.
The court instructed the formation of a panel of doctors at a government hospital in Ahmedabad to examine Asaram’s health, with a focus on his cardiac condition. His interim bail has been extended until August 29. Earlier, the Gujarat High Court had granted him bail on the same grounds, citing abnormally high ‘troponin levels’ as per his recent medical reports. Currently, Asaram is admitted to the ICU of Jupiter Hospital in Indore.
In the Jodhpur case as well, the Rajasthan High Court ordered a medical examination by a committee that will include two cardiology specialists to assess his heart-related ailments. The committee’s findings will be submitted to the court for review.
Asaram, convicted in rape cases in both Gujarat and Rajasthan, remains on interim bail in both matters until August 29, following his appeal filed on August 8.
