Udhampur: A 40-year-old woman died during treatment after she was allegedly set on fire by her 26-year-old stepson in Housing Colony, Udhampur. The victim reportedly suffered burns over approximately 80 per cent of her body and was admitted to hospital in critical condition.
According to information available, the deceased, Sushma Devi, wife of Keshav Verma, was a resident of Housing Colony in Udhampur. The accused is reportedly her stepson, as her husband had married a second time.
The incident took place when the accused allegedly poured an inflammable substance on Sushma Devi and set her on fire. Following the incident, local residents rushed her to Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur, for treatment.
However, despite medical intervention, the woman succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
According to reports, the accused fled the scene after the incident. Police registered an FIR and launched an investigation into the case. The accused has since been arrested.
Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances and motive behind the incident.
