Jalandhar, September 30, 2026: Security agencies were put on high alert hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Jalandhar and the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab’ mega rally after a threatening email was received. The email claimed that an IED had been planted under the rally stage. It also threatened blasts at schools, the Shri Devi Talab Temple, the court complex and buses. However, the claims made in the email have not been independently verified.
Threatening Email Received in the Morning
According to reports, several schools in Jalandhar and nearby areas received threatening emails on Wednesday morning. The emails reportedly warned parents against sending their children to school and advised people not to attend Amit Shah’s rally. Some reports said the emails were received between 7:07 am and 7:50 am.
The email also mentioned alleged timings for explosions at different locations. It reportedly named the Shri Devi Talab Temple, the court complex and an office as possible targets. Police took the matter seriously and increased security in the concerned areas.
Claim of Bombs in 2-3 Buses
The threatening message also referred to buses being used to bring people to the rally. The email claimed that 2-3 buses out of around 2,000 buses had bombs planted inside them. There has been no independent confirmation of this claim so far.
Temple Also Mentioned in Threat
A visit to the Shri Devi Talab Temple is part of Amit Shah’s programme. He is scheduled to offer prayers at the temple before proceeding to the rally venue. Following the threat, security arrangements around the temple have been further strengthened. SPG and Punjab Police teams have been checking the temple premises and surrounding areas.
Panic at Schools
Following the threats, security measures were also stepped up at some schools in Amritsar, and reports said students were sent back home from certain locations. Police and cyber teams are working to trace the source of the threatening emails and identify the sender. Authorities have appealed to people not to believe rumours and to rely only on official information.
Amit Shah’s Mega Rally in Jalandhar
Amit Shah is addressing the concluding programme of the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ in the Paragpur area of Jalandhar on Wednesday. Four BJP-led yatras began from different parts of Punjab on September 18 and reportedly covered around 4,000 kilometres and all 117 Assembly constituencies.
A large turnout is expected at the rally. According to BJP leaders, arrangements have been made for more than 2,000 buses to bring supporters to the venue. Extensive arrangements have also been made for parking and crowd management.
Controversial Slogans Written Earlier
A day before Amit Shah’s visit, controversial slogans were found written on the walls of the Red Cross building in Jalandhar. Police removed the slogans and began examining CCTV footage and other evidence.
A video also surfaced in which separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun was claimed to have taken responsibility for the incident. However, this claim has not been independently verified.
Security Agencies on High Alert
Following the threatening emails, security has been intensified at the rally venue, temple, schools and other sensitive locations. Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog teams are conducting checks, while cyber teams are investigating the source of the emails and attempting to identify the sender.
For now, the claims made in the threatening emails remain unverified, but security agencies are taking no chances and are treating the threats seriously.
