Bihar: As the Bihar Assembly elections approach in 2025, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has intensified its campaign, focusing particularly on 45 crucial constituencies where the margin of victory or defeat in the 2020 polls was less than 5,000 votes. These seats, spread across the state, could prove decisive in shaping the final outcome.
Several members of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet are among those whose constituencies witnessed closely fought contests last time. In some places, the difference between victory and defeat was under 1,000 votes, highlighting how every ballot could matter in the upcoming polls. Notably, in one constituency of Nalanda district, a JD(U) candidate secured victory by just 12 votes in 2020.
Constituencies with Margins Below 1,000 Votes
In the 2020 Assembly elections, multiple NDA candidates either narrowly won or lost by margins under 1,000 votes. For example, in Parbatta, the JD(U) candidate won by only 951 votes, but this seat has now gone to another alliance partner under the new seat-sharing arrangement.
In Barbigha, the JD(U) candidate had won by 113 votes, and the party has since replaced its candidate there. From Bhore, Minister Sunil Kumar secured victory by 462 votes. Similarly, JD(U)’s Krishna Murari Sharan managed to win from Hilsa by just 12 votes.
Among those who lost narrowly were BJP’s Ramshankar Paswan from Bakhri (by 777 votes), Satyanarayan Yadav from Dehri (464), Rohit from Bhagalpur (113), Bogo Singh from Matihani (333), and Kedar Gupta from Kudhani (712).
