Snowfall in Kashmir: Gulmarg Receives Season’s First Snow, Mountains Drape in White

Srinagar — Gulmarg, the renowned skiing and tourist destination in Kashmir, witnessed its first snowfall of the season, transforming the region into a picturesque winter wonderland. The snowfall occurred during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, covering popular peaks like Apharwat and Sunshine with a pristine white blanket.

While upper reaches received snowfall, plains across the Valley experienced light to moderate rainfall, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and a refreshing chill in the air.

Tourists and locals alike expressed delight at the early snowfall. Many visitors described the experience as “magical”, with some saying they felt “lucky” to witness snow this early in the season. A tourist capturing the snowy peaks on camera said, “Seeing Gulmarg’s mountains covered in snow in October feels surreal. We weren’t expecting this beautiful surprise.”

The fresh snowfall has enhanced the scenic beauty of Kashmir, drawing more tourists to the region. The white-clad slopes and chilly breeze have signaled the arrival of the winter season much earlier than usual.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that weather conditions are expected to improve by the afternoon. However, the recent rain and snowfall have already led to a noticeable dip in temperatures across the region.

Gulmarg, already a favorite among winter sports enthusiasts, is now buzzing with activity as tourists flock to the town, capturing the snow-covered landscapes on their cameras and sharing in the excitement of the season’s first snow.
