Amarnath Yatra Halted After Fatal Landslide

In Jammu and Kashmir, continuous rainfall triggered a landslide on the Baltal route of the Amarnath Yatra on Wednesday. The incident occurred in the Ganderbal district, leading to the death of a female pilgrim and injuring three others. As a precaution, the pilgrimage was suspended for the entire day on Thursday.

Authorities have halted all movement along both routes to the holy cave due to safety concerns. However, stranded pilgrims at the Panchtarni camp are being escorted toward Baltal with assistance from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and mountain rescue teams.

According to the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, the resumption of the pilgrimage will depend on weather conditions on Friday. So far, over 2.47 lakh devotees have had darshan at the sacred Amarnath cave this season.
