In a special initiative for Diwali and other upcoming festivals, Indian Railways has introduced an experimental scheme offering passengers a 20% discount on return tickets if both onward and return journeys are booked together.
The scheme aims to ease passenger rush and reduce booking hassles during the festive season, particularly benefiting those traveling home and back by train.
Conditions for Availing the Discount:
- Same Train Pair Requirement: Both tickets must be for the same train pair. For instance, if a passenger travels from Ahmedabad to Patna by Ahmedabad–Barauni Express (19484), the return journey must be booked on the corresponding Barauni–Ahmedabad Express (19483).
- Identical Ticket Details: Passenger details such as name, age, source and destination, travel distance, and class (Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC) must match on both tickets.
Booking Window and Travel Dates:
Bookings under the scheme will open on 14 August 2025. The onward journey must fall between 13 October and 26 October 2025, while the return journey should be between 17 November and 1 December 2025.
Indian Railways has clarified that the scheme is being implemented on an experimental basis and may be extended based on passenger response.
