Srinagar: The first group of Kashmiri medical students stranded in Iran has crossed into Armenia and is moving toward temporary accommodation. As the evacuation process accelerates, around 150 students from Kashmir Valley are expected to reach Delhi and Mumbai by March 15.
According to reports, students from Urmia University of Medical Sciences have already crossed the Armenian border and are currently in a safe and stable condition. Those who have confirmed flight tickets for March 14 are expected to reach the airport soon and begin their onward journey to India.
A second group that departed from Qom has reached the border and is awaiting immigration clearance before entering Armenia. Meanwhile, students from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences have been relocated from their campuses and safely moved to Qom. After completing visa formalities, they are expected to depart for Azerbaijan or Armenia.
Around 27 students from Arak University of Medical Sciences, along with several other Indian students, have also reached the border safely. They are currently staying in a hotel near the border while waiting for further travel arrangements. Their flights to India are scheduled for March 20.
Request for Immediate Relocation
The All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) said that on the evening of March 12, several students from Arak University contacted them for help after a building near their hostel was attacked, causing panic among residents in the area.
Students from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences have also requested immediate relocation, citing increasing security concerns in the region.
Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan urged the Embassy of India in Iran to expedite the relocation of all remaining students. He said AIMSA is in constant contact with Indian students across various universities in Iran to ensure their safety and smooth evacuation.
150 Students From Kashmir Valley
About 150 of the returning students belong to different districts of the Kashmir Valley. Local parents have expressed relief as the evacuation process moves forward but urged the government to ensure the safe return of all students still stranded in Iran.
After landing in Delhi and Mumbai, the students are expected to travel to their respective home states.
