BJP to Field Candidates on All Four Rajya Sabha Seats from Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu, October 4 – In a significant political announcement, the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) declared on Saturday that it will field candidates for all four Rajya Sabha seats from the Union Territory. The decision was taken during a crucial meeting of the party’s core group held at the BJP headquarters in Jammu.

The meeting was chaired by BJP National General Secretary and J&K in-charge, Tarun Chugh, and began at 10:30 AM, lasting approximately 45 minutes. Senior party leaders including J&K BJP President Sat Sharma and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh were among those present.

During the meeting, discussions were held on potential candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Tarun Chugh sought suggestions from core group members on the type of personalities who should represent the Union Territory in the Upper House, emphasizing the need for individuals who could effectively voice the region’s concerns. The discussions focused not just on individual merit but also on selecting candidates who reflect the social and political diversity of Jammu and Kashmir.

Following the meeting, BJP’s chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi addressed the media, confirming the party’s intention to contest all four Rajya Sabha seats. “The BJP does not believe in politics of cross-voting. We have carefully considered candidates that represent OBCs, women, and other significant groups,” he stated.

Sethi added that the recommendations and conclusions from the meeting will now be forwarded to the party’s central leadership in New Delhi for final approval. The names of the chosen candidates will be officially announced after review by the top leadership.

Several prominent party figures who are believed to be in contention for nominations were present at the meeting. These include J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina, former Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh, and senior BJP leader Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi. All three are being seen as strong potential candidates for the Rajya Sabha.
