Bhagwat Says If Dharma Comes Under Threat, Nation Will Suffer: “Religion and Nation Are Not Separate”

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said that religion and the nation are not separate in India. He said the purpose of the nation is to uphold dharma, while dharma helps sustain the nation. If dharma comes under threat, the country will have to bear the consequences, he said.

“Our nation and dharma are not separate. The purpose of the nation is dharma, and dharma sustains the nation. Both are dependent on each other. If one exists, the other also exists. If one does not exist, neither does the other,” Bhagwat said.

Bhagwat was addressing the 14th conference of the All India Vihar Seva Group in Mumbai. He said the world is currently searching for a balance between development and environmental protection, as well as between individual freedom and family life.

Four Key Points From Bhagwat’s Speech

1. Solutions to Global Problems Can Emerge From India

Bhagwat said India shared its knowledge with the world without trying to conquer other countries or convert people to another religion. According to him, the world knows that the way forward will emerge from India.

2. India Has a Vast Knowledge Tradition

He said India has a rich knowledge tradition comprising the Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita. He added that this tradition also includes Jain Agamas, the Tripitaka, the Guru Granth Sahib and the teachings of various saints.

3. Devotion Can Bring People Closer to God

Bhagwat said India possesses a vast treasure of knowledge that the world needs today. He said the power of devotion can help people move closer to God.

4. Protecting Humanity’s Future Is Essential

Bhagwat said protecting the lives and traditions of those who carry forward this knowledge is not merely a religious responsibility but also a service to humanity.

“You are not protecting just one life. You are protecting the safe future of the entire human race,” he said.
