Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch, Kashmir, has arrested an accused in an alleged property fraud case involving around ₹93 lakh.
The accused has been identified as Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar, son of Abdul Khaliq Dar, a resident of Jawalapora, Samson Budgam. According to the Crime Branch, Dar had been evading arrest for nearly a year. His arrest was carried out in compliance with an order and warrant issued by the court of the Sub-Judge, Srinagar.
Alleged Plot to Sell Land and Trees
The action was taken in connection with FIR No. 17/2026 registered at the EOW-Special Crime Wing Kashmir Police Station.
According to the Crime Branch, a written complaint alleged that Dar, who was reportedly working as a land broker, along with co-accused Som Nath Kaul, allegedly cheated the complainant of ₹93 lakh.
During the investigation, it was allegedly found that the accused had offered to sell five kanals of migrant land in Drusu, Pulwama, along with around 300 standing trees in Bijbehara.
The Crime Branch alleges that fake agreements and documents were used as part of the alleged fraud.
Bank Account Opened on the Same Day
The investigation has also brought to light another significant detail.
According to the Crime Branch, the bank account allegedly used to transfer the fraud proceeds was opened on the very same day the money was transferred.
The agency alleges that the accused assured people that they could sell migrant property and represented themselves as the owners or authorised Power of Attorney holders of the property.
Second Accused Still Absconding
The second accused, Som Nath Kaul, is still absconding. A ‘Hue and Cry’ notice has been issued against him as authorities continue efforts to trace him.
The Crime Branch said that the investigation is still underway to uncover the entire network and activities allegedly linked to the fraud.
The arrest marks a significant development in the ₹93 lakh alleged property fraud case, while investigators are now focusing on identifying other possible links and establishing the full extent of the alleged property-related scam.
