IRCTC Announces Key Changes to Ticketing Rules Effective July 1: Chart Preparation Now 8 Hours Before Departure

Starting July 1, Indian Railways passengers will experience several important changes in ticket booking and reservation processes, as the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) updates its policies to enhance travel convenience and transparency.

One of the most notable changes is the revised timing for reservation chart preparation. Previously prepared four hours before the train’s departure, reservation charts will now be finalized eight hours prior to departure. This change will allow passengers to know much earlier whether their ticket has been confirmed. In case of a waiting list status, travelers will have ample time — a full eight hours — to explore alternative travel options.

For trains scheduled to depart before 2 PM, the reservation chart will be prepared by 9 PM the previous night.

Key Policy Updates Effective July 1:

  • TATKAL Ticket Booking: Only users with Aadhaar-verified IRCTC accounts will be eligible to book Tatkal tickets via the IRCTC website or mobile app.
  • Multilingual Reservation Forms: Passengers will now be able to fill out reservation forms in various Indian languages, improving accessibility.
  • Seat Selection Option: Travelers may soon have the option to select their preferred seat at the time of booking.
  • Special Provisions: Additional facilities are being introduced for differently-abled individuals, students, and patients.
  • Fare Calendar: A new fare calendar will display ticket prices for each day, helping passengers plan their journeys more efficiently.

Indian Railways continues to introduce reforms aimed at improving passenger experience. Travelers are advised to familiarize themselves with these new regulations before July 1 to ensure smooth and uninterrupted journeys.
