Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has reportedly been injured in an Israeli attack during the ongoing conflict. According to reports cited by The Times of Israel, he was wounded amid the current war situation.
Iranian state television described him as a “brave warrior,” a term commonly used in Iran to indicate that someone has been injured in an enemy attack. However, the report did not specify the exact incident in which Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded.
Earlier, on February 28, Mojtaba’s wife, daughter, and father were reported killed during the conflict.
Since the war began, Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public. He was reportedly declared Iran’s new Supreme Leader last night.
Israel’s Warning After Leadership Change
Following the death of Ali Khamenei, Israel and the United States reportedly warned that appointing a new Supreme Leader without international consent could lead to targeted action. Israel stated that whoever becomes Iran’s Supreme Leader would be tracked down and eliminated, regardless of where they are hiding.
Ali Khamenei Ruled Iran for 35 Years
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was reportedly killed on February 28 during a joint U.S.–Israeli attack.
He had held Iran’s highest leadership position since 1989, after the death of Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic.
During the Iranian Revolution of 1979, which overthrew Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Khamenei played a significant role in the revolutionary movement.
After the revolution, he became Iran’s president in 1981 and served for eight years. When Khomeini died in 1989, Khamenei was appointed as his successor and became Iran’s Supreme Leader.
According to reports, “Ayatollah” is a religious title. Under Iran’s Islamic legal system, a person must hold the rank of Ayatollah to become the Supreme Leader, meaning the position can only be held by a senior religious authority.
