New Delhi: The address of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is set to change soon, with preparations for the new office nearing completion. Officials indicate that the shift could take place as early as this month, as final touches are currently underway.
The Prime Minister’s Office, the Cabinet Secretariat, and the National Security Council Secretariat are being relocated to the newly constructed Seva Teerth Complex, located near Vijay Chowk at the base of Raisina Hill. The complex comprises three high-tech buildings—Seva Teerth 1, Seva Teerth 2, and Seva Teerth 3.
- Seva Teerth 1 will house the Prime Minister’s Office.
- Seva Teerth 2 has already become the new location of the Cabinet Secretariat.
- Seva Teerth 3 will accommodate the National Security Council Secretariat, where National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will be based.
The Seva Teerth Complex has been developed as part of the ambitious Central Vista redevelopment project. Under this project, the new Parliament building and the Vice President’s Enclave have already been completed. Additionally, eight new Kartavya Bhavans (duty buildings) are being constructed for various ministries; three of these are ready, and several ministries have already shifted into them.
Officials said the PMO is also likely to move into the Seva Teerth Complex later this month.
From Executive Enclave to Seva Teerth
Initially, the new PMO complex was referred to as the Executive Enclave. However, in December, government sources confirmed that it would be officially named the Seva Teerth Complex. Around the same time, a decision was taken to rename Raj Bhavans across the country as Lok Bhavans.
Construction of the new Prime Minister’s residence is also underway adjacent to the Seva Teerth Complex. Once completed, the Prime Minister’s official residence will shift from 7, Lok Kalyan Marg to the new complex.
Modern Facilities with Cultural Touch
The Seva Teerth Complex features state-of-the-art rooms for meetings with dignitaries, designed to reflect India’s rich culture and heritage. Special chambers have also been created for Cabinet meetings. Similar to the Kartavya Bhavans, the new PMO will largely follow an open-floor office design for officials.
A Historic Shift
Since Independence, the Prime Minister’s Office has operated from the South Block, which also housed the Ministries of External Affairs and Defence. The North Block, home to the Ministries of Home Affairs and Finance, has now been vacated following their relocation to the Kartavya Bhavans.
The historic North and South Block buildings, originally constructed during the British era, will be transformed into the Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum, marking a significant transition in India’s administrative landscape.
